Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 232: Seven Things

Proverbs 6:16-19
There are six things the Lord hates--
no, seven things he detests:
haughty eyes
a lying tongue
hands that kill the innocent
a heart that plots evil
feet that race to do wrong
a false witness who pours out lies
a person who sows discord in a family.

************

I flipped to this verse tonight (I'm sure not by accident) and skimmed this list.  The things the Lord hates: killing the innocent, evil hearts, sowing discord, lies....

Lies.

We humans have a hierachy of evil. Murderers are at the top followed by rapists, thieves, etc. Liars are pretty much down at the bottom under the 'slap on the wrist' category... in our mind anyway.

Remember, all sins are equal in God's eyes (as hard as it for us to comprehend.) Your good sins don't trump someone's "worse" ones.

That can sound kind of depressing...

Well, it is and it isn't. It also means that you can get forgiven for anything if you TRULY believe it and feel remorse (and have Jesus in your heart). I don't advocate going out and killing someone and then pulling the 'Oh, I'll ask God to forgive me.. he has to" card. It doesn't really work that way.But I do know that God can save you from the sins of your past.

There is a preacher in Nashville. I watch him sometimes on Sunday mornings. When he was 18, he killed a man. I want to say it was a drug deal, but i don't remember exactly. Anyway, while in prison, God changed his life. He's now a pastor and has a wife and kids.

Don't try to compare your sins to others-- you will only have to answer for yours-- and not compared to any one else's "worse" ones.

God Bless You

  1. Hi Kelly - great reminder to focus on our own stuff and not compare for better or worse with someone else's stuff

  2. That list in Proverbs always speaks to me too, Kelly. A lying tongue doesn't seem like it belongs on a list with taking innocent lives, but God says these are things He hates. Sin, even the "little" ones, bring separation between us and God. I'm so thankful for the forgiveness offered when we truly repent.

    Many blessings!
