Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 227: Shamgar vs Samson

Judges 3:31
After Ehud, Shamgar son of Anath rescued Israel. He once killed 600 Philistines with an ox goad.

And....................

That's all we know about Shamgar.

(I think I've talked about this before, but I've been thinking about this alot today).

Shamgar was one of the judges of Israel. He was a great man who God chose just like He did Samson.

So why is Samson's story all of 2-3 chapters, and Shamgar gets one verse?

Does that mean Samson is more important than Shamgar?

I'm going to say, No. He isn't.

Shamgar and Samson were both chosen by God to fulfill his purpose. Both did what God instructed them to do. Samson's story might be more flashy and 'soap opera-y', but it doesn't mean it was more important.

Sometimes, we can get down thinking, "(So and So) is being used so greatly by God. They are like Samson and I'm just a lowly Shamgar. Wonder why I'm not blessed like that?"

Truthfully, I can't answer that. I have no idea why some people have more 'impressive' stories than others.  But I do know that everyone is used by God is a way specific to their strengths and His purpose for them.

Don't be upset if you feel your ministry is 'lowly'. Even Matthew was a lowly tax collector.

God Bless You,

Kelly (who has again rambled....)

  1. Everyone has a story and every life has a purpose. God has a plan for our lives and we need to trust Him to use us in the way He knows is best.
