Day 12-- Rachel's Sad End

Day 12:34-36

Key Points:

*Don’t rape women you want to marry! It will turn out badly for everyone involved!!

*Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin. Jacob had worked for Laban for years, finally got his family free, was going to settle down, and Rachel never made it. That had to have been a hard blow to him—and to his other wife and mothers of his other kids. Everyone knew he loved Rachel most so when he grieved for her, it had to hurt them because they were still there.

*Then there is a whole chapter on the family/clans of Esau

Verses that Jumped Out at Me:

34:25-31—Set apart doesn’t mean “better” and if you think it does, it will end badly for you and everyone else.

35:22—In the Bible, lots of verses can stick out as interesting stories of their own. This verse is one of them. You are reading along and then BAM “Reuben had intercourse with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Jacob soon heard about it.”

Then it just goes on (we learn more about it later, but if this is your first go round you go… “WHAT? That seems kinda interesting.”

Novels could be written on one verse, but could you imagine how big the Bible would have been then?

35:29--- This event was mentioned earlier in the Book, but it has more meaning now. Jacob had ran from Esau for 20 years. He came back scared out of his gourd that Esau would kill him for stealing his birthright. To his surprise, Esau embraced him. Then, after all of that, the brothers got to be together to bury their father, united. I don’t know, but I thought it was a good ending to Isaac’s story.
