Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 316: Showing Your Joy

1 Peter 1:8

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy

***************

The 'him' here is Jesus.

I got to thinking about this verse-- I know Jesus. I believe in Jesus... but am I filled with 'inexpressible and glorious joy'?

I know a man... Every time you ask him how he is, he says something positive about how the Lord has blessed him. You can tell beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.

Me? Well, the other day I wasn't happy with my husband. He called and I didn't get to the phone in time so the answering machine picked up. It recorded a few minutes of our conversation..

Oh...

My...

Gosh!...

I sounded like someone had shot my puppy. I was short with him; sounded defeated; sounded angry; like something horrible had happened.

I don't even remember what I was upset over---

Wow, what a wake up call (literally)!

I had no idea I was talking to him like that. I got to thinking about how I talk to others without realizing it.

How would you fair if someone taped you without you knowing it? Would you be showing your joy in Jesus or would you sound like a grumpy old troll?...

God Bless You,

Kelly

    1. mine either! I don't have the bestest accent in the world... and when I'm mad it comes out worse. Plus... you know... the sounding sadder than I feel at times. Thanks for commenting :)

  2. Wow, what a great reminder indeed! Thanks for sharing this today, what a huge blessing to my heart! I once heard (or read) somewhere that says that a character is what we have when we think no one is looking or listening. God help me that my character in His Name will glorify Him in my life. Thank you! =)

    1. That is a great thing to remember. It's not how you act when people are around, but how you act when they're not. Thanks for commenting :)

  3. I think on days I have been a grumpy old troll, I'd be too embrassed to hear my own voice. Thank you for the wondeful reminder!! I will be putting my words and tone in check!!

    Blessings to you!

    1. You're right. it's not just our words, its the tone we use. We can use the best words ever, but if they are sarcastic or have a bad tone, they might as well be bad words. Thanks for commenting :)

  4. Wow..I often think I want to tape our conversations so my husband can hear how he talks. How bad is that!!! That is because i would know the recorder was on. I'd hate to have it taped when I was unaware!

  5. Yeah, Shanda... it's not very nice. I knew it was taping, but it was in the other room so I couldn't turn it off. And then-- well-- I listened to it to see how horrible he sounded and how sad I sounded. i wanted to cry at how whiney I sounded and how actually calm and *mostly* understanding he was.
