Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 102: Your Word...

James 5:12
But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by Heaven or Earth or anything else.  Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.

***************************

I'm sure you have heard all about not swearing.  Well, here is a verse that talks about it.

Sometimes when we feel like others aren't listening to us, it's easy to say something quick like, "I swear to God." or  "I promise on my life that--"

God doesn't really like it when we do that.

If you say something like that, and it doesn't come true-- then it looks like you are a liar. If it does come true, then you have still gotten in the habit of doing it-- and next time it might not come true.

Let your reputation be so pure that your yeses and nos are all you need in this life.  If you have a good reputation and you say yes, you will do something, then that's good enough for some people.  But once you break that-- it is hard to get the trust back.

Instead of using big words and loud banter to get your point across (and also using 'oaths' or 'swearing'), le'ts let our reputation and our character speak for ourselves.

God Bless You :)

Kelly

  1. Hi Kelly - my post is also partially about this as well. I feel it speaks to walking in integrity. Now, when I hear someone say, 'in all honesty...' i wonder what they were lying about before? :)
    Great post
    God bless
