Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

Looking 'Silly' for God

When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said in disgust, "How distinguished the King of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!"

David retorted to Michal (his wife), "I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me above you father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord, so I celebrate before the Lord. Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes!...
2 Samual 6: 20-22

When was the last time you looked 'silly' for God? Or do you reject any urge you have at church to dance around, go to the alter, or even say Amen?

I'm a shy type. David (and my husband) aren't. Maybe we should think about what makes God happy instead of what makes us blush or out of our comfort zone.

  1. I have danced before the Lord in the congregation --- because everyone else was dancing! I'm working on being more spontaneous for the Lord!

  2. Ahhhh... Great word my friend!! I don't have a problem with dancing before the Lord, however there are areas that I'd prefer to stay in my comfort zone as well....
This spoke to my heart :))

  3. I am pretty free during worship at church. I feel it's the one time in the service (besides offering) that we are giving back to God, rather than taking. I shut everyone else out and just sing to Him as if He were right there in the room, because HE IS!

Our church is a mixture of quiet worshipers and more outgoing ones like me, but I think that we should worship in whatever way God prompts us...with one caveat. I've been in services were some people get so rowdy that it disrupts the worship of others and draws attention to themselves. The focus should be on God. Nuff said.
