Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

Day 33: Needing a Strong Leader

Proverbs 11:14-- Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisors.

********************

Ok, we aren't talking about judging/judgement today :)  Ok, well, sorry.. just looked... we are talking about the book of Judges....

In Sunday School, we have been studying the books of Joshua and Judges.  I won't get into all of the details, but it is a very interesting read for sure.  One of the main themes of the books, especially Judges, is that when the Israelites had a strong leader, they were a strong nation.  They conquered many cities with much bigger armies than they did--- all with the help of  a strong leader and God's hand on them.

During the time they had a strong leader, the Israelites believed in and worshipped God.  However, when that Judge died, they always went back to their sinful ways.  Worshipping idols and making nice with the temple prostitutes.

The point being a strong leader is essentional in all areas of our life.

All things need a strong leader.

What makes a strong leader?  Well, in Judges, the leaders weren't chosen because of their morals (Samson for example), but they were chosen for their willingness to submit to God's authority in their lives.  They all opened their hearts to God and allowed Him to use them.  They were all strong in one way or another, but their submission to God and His will made them stronger.

A quaility of beng a good, strong leader is listening to different advisors. (It could be your wife if you have chosen to live the 'Husband is the Head of the household' way.  It could be other church members if you are a pastor. It could be yourself if you life alone.  You could need to lead yourself... hold yourself responsible).  A wise leader listens and then that leader prays to God for the correct answer.

Are you a leader?  Are you a leader's helper?  Do you have a submissive heart to God?  Something to pray about for sure.

God Bless You!
(Smile your best encouraging smile today!! :))

  1. Kelly, this is great to remember! I like that you said the leaders were "chosen for their willingness to submit to God's authority in their lives." Sometimes I think I have to "do stuff" to be a strong leader when really all I have to do is submit to God. Thank you for this post! I love your blog!

  2. Hi Kelly - I also like that the leaders were chosen for their willingness to submit to God's authority. That removes the whole 'I'm in charge' thing. They say the best leader is one who is willing to serve. Excellent post.
    God bless
