Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

Day 28: When Our Enemy Falls

Proverbs 24: Don't rejoice when your enemies fall; don't be happy when they stumble. For the Lord will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them.

********************

"Well.... they deserved it!"

How many times have we said that..... "Well they deserved it."  or thought it.. when our 'enemy' falls?

"Oh no, Kelly. I don't have an enemy. I love everyone."

Ok, well... lets think about that.

Who is your enemy?

It could be someone you really don't like... or someone who has hurt you so badly that you absolutely loathe them.  It could be someone who meerly iritates you... to someone that the only time you think of them is when you wish them dead (harsh?  Yes, but so is God's judgement.)

Examine your life (Yeah, I'm doing the same.. I don't 'loathe' anyone.  But sometimes I get irked).  Who in it are your 'enemies'?  Who would you think "Oh they deserved it." if something bad happened to them?

The Bible says that thinking such a thing is the wrong kind of attitude to have.  We are supposed to love everyone-- even our enemies-- and not wish any type of pain or distress on them.  And not to be glad when they fall on hard times.

That is very hard.  The human part of us wants to be excited that they 'finally get theirs'.

If we think that, we need to recognize it and immediately ask God to forgive us.  We aren't supposed to be happy with anyone's suffering.

Anyone.

Evil or not.

Mean to us or not.

Annoying or not.

Anyone.

Easier said than done sometimes... but with God's help, we can do it!

If we don't. If we continue letting these thoughts creep into our heads the verse says that "God will turn his anger away from THEM." and let me add... probably onto us.

I don't know about you, but I don't want God's anger turned to me.

God Bless you!!!

Kelly

  1. Hi Kelly. Great post. We have an enemy, sadly a member of the family and I have read this inside out and agree. I never thought about it in terms of 'anyone' as in 'not a real live enemy' just anyone who gets up your nose! Good reminder to examine one's responses. I also don't want God's anger turned to me.
    God bless

  2. Oh honey, I'm the same way lol. You'd think 'love thy neighbor' would be easy, but really it takes work and a lot of prayer.
