Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 289: All the Power you Have

John 19:10-11

"Why don't you talk to me?" Pilot demanded. "Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?"

Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin."

********

Jesus is talking about Caiaphas and the other leaders that gave Jesus over to Pilot in the last sentence: "So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin."

But I want to talk about this part: "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above."

From what I can gather, Pilot did NOT want to kill Jesus. He didn't see any reason too. He kept giving Jesus every opportunity to talk to him, to clear his name, to make a case for himself-- but He wouldn't do it.

When Pilot finally got upset, he demanded Jesus to talk to him because he had to power to release him or crucify him.

Jesus told him that the only power he had was what God had given him.: that the only reason he had that power was because God allowed it.

Wow.

No one will ever have more power over you than God-- and sometimes we can't understand how God can give certain people power when they 'obviously' (to us) either waste it or abuse it.  That's not for us to understand.

We just have to realize that, in the end, no one (ever) is more powerful than God, and no matter what, he loves us.

God Bless You,

Kelly
