Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Cor. 15:58

day 107: The Rock... or the Sand

Matthew 7:24-27
Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house with solid rock.  Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock.  But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.  When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.

*******************************************************

"The foolish man built his house upon the sand....
The foolish man built his house upon the sand....
The foolish man built his house up on the sand....
And the rain came tumbling down...."

This story has 2 main characters.  Both have a lot in common.  Both heard God's word.  Both accepted it.  Both decided to "build a house", but that's where the similarities end.

One built his 'house' on the sand.  Basically, he built his house without a strong foundation in God or His word.

One built his 'house' on a rock.  Meaning he built his house with a very strong foundation in God.

Both had a like idea... but only one succeeded.

"The rains came down and the floods came up....
the rains came down and the floods came up...
the rains came down and the floods came up...
And the foolish man's house went SPLAT (or SPLASH... whichever...)"

Without a strong foundation, a house will fall-- just like if you don't have a strong foundation in God and his Word your 'house' will fall with the slightest rainstorm from the Devil.

How do you get a strong foundation in God?  How do you build your house on the rock?

*Go to church regularily (like weekly--- not regularily only at Easter)

*Read the Bible Daily-- KNOW what you are believing.

*Hang out with people with similar beliefs (now don't throw your non-believing friends away.)

*Get involved with church functions or even volunteer in some sort of community capacity.

*Keep God in the front of your mind and don't let Him slip back toward the back

Anything you can do to strengthen your foundation in God is a good thing.

Do you have any other suggestions to add to help others build their foundations in God?  I'd love to hear them :)

God Bless You.

Kelly
