Proverbs 18:8
Rumors are like dainty morsels
that sink deep into one's heart.
********************
Ah.... rumors....
We all love to hear them. I've been known on occassion to say, "Just tell me. I won't tell anyone." Then run and tell my Mama (because she's about the only one I tell rumors too.... not that it's any better...)
What happens when a rumor spreads, and it's true?
Well the person might be embarrassed. They could be upset that you broke a confidence. Their reputation could be ruined. People could think differently of them. It makes you a gossip.
What happens when a rumor spreads, and it's not true?
You could damage someone's reputation. They could blame you for spreading the rumor around and you could lose a friend. Others might not believe you any more.
There are so many negatives to spreading gossip/rumors. Even if you don't give 'names' or 'details'-- usually people's minds wander-- and a lot of times what they come up with is worse than whatever the real 'rumor' or 'truth' is.
Think before you spread rumors, even if you 'think' they are true. Either way, you could hurt someone's feelings.
God Bless You,
Kelly
